Betty Warrilow

I visited the New Registry Office in Edinburgh in 1969 & copied directly from the original registers. I later confirmed the information with the I.G.I.

Mary Peddie, lawful daughter of John Peddie, officer of Excise and Charlotte Sinclair was born 20th November 1801. (Register Kirkwall Parish, Orkneys) Mary married Thomas Geddes, lawful son of William Geddes & Ann Dunnet born April 16, 1794, on 21 Feb. 1824.

Census returns showed them living at Gill, Parish of Canisbay. They had a family of 10 children. # 7 Charlotte born Oct. 2, 1837 and #10 Williamina (Mina) born Jan.9, 1845 lived in Canada. About 25 years ago I put together their history "THE GEDDED GIRLS IN CANADA" for the Ontario Genealogical Society.

Charlotte married William Miller in Scotland and came to Canada with two daughters. They settled in Rainham Township, Haldimand County in Ontario. Williamina (Mina) came to Canada and married Robert Mowat born 7 October 1845, son of Robert Mowat and Sarah Sinclair residents of Freswick, Caithnesshire.

Two Geddes girls went to Australia: Frances? and Elizabeth who married 1. Hanson and 2. Jones no issue. Living in Scotland were John Geddes, Isabella and Ann. During WW1, Mina Mowat a nursing sister travelled north to visit her relatives. Mina was the youngest child of Williamina and Robert Mowat. She has a daughter Betty still living..I am the granddaughter of an older sister of Mina, Elizabeth (Bessie) Mowat who married Alex Gordon.

Betty Pace hasn't been too well and I ended up dreaming about her. That was when I decided to see if the internet could tell me something I didn't know. Betty and I carry the same mitochondrial D.N.A through our common female ancestors - Williamina Geddes, Mary Peddie and Charlotte Sinclair.
