David Alistair Watson Peddie

Our bit of the Peddie family originated in Scotland, probably in the Dundee (Angus) region.

Donald Peddie (b: circa 1775) married Janet Small. They had 5 children; Elspeth (bapt 1796), Janet (bapt 1798), Ann (bapt 1804), William (bapt 1808) and James (b: 1816).

James Peddie (b: 1816) married Helen Waddell (b.1815). They had 11 children; Donald, Joseph, Margaret, William, Janet, James, Helen, David (b: 1851), Ann, Christina, and John.

David (b: 1851) married Jane Brodie (b.1852). They had 8 children; David Donaldson Peddie, William (Will) Brodie Peddie, James, Helen, Margaret, Kate, Selena (Lena) and Elizabeth (Betty). Lena died young and is buried in Dundee. Helen and Margaret both possibly died in infancy.

James, the eldest brother, apparently went abroad to train horses in the Middle East, but so far investigations have drawn a blank.

William (Will) Brodie Peddie married Kate Hagan, and for a time kept the Kirk Style Hotel, in Dunning, Perth, Scotland. They had four children, William (Bill), David Donaldson, Kathleen and Jean.

David Donaldson Peddie (born ?, died 7th Sep 1941) was my Grandfather. He married Agnes Watson on 17th March 1917. He spent time in the Indian and British Civil Service, and also served in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders during the first World War. They had 2 children, George Watson Peddie (born 25th Feb 1924, died 7th Aug 2001) and Evelyn (Eve) (born 10th Sep 1919). Eve married an Anthony (Tony) Hampton.

George Watson Peddie married Dorothy Harrowing Elderkin on 21st June 1947 and had one son, David Alistair Watson Peddie (me - b:3-7-48).

Finally, to bring everything bang up to date, I am married to Jan (Janet), and we have a son, Joel David Watson Peddie, and currently live in Birkenhead, Merseyside UK.
