You Said What?

Originals

I hope you like these poor 'pearls of wisdom'.
They are original and that may be their only merit.
They mostly reflect my personal Christian faith which,
I hope, may touch you in some way.

  • If our Christianity cannot survive in the outside world, it is not that the world is too strong, but that our Christianity is too weak.

  • In heaven I won't have to do what I'm told, but it will be told what I have done.

  • Lord: not the theology of theory, but the theology of reality.

  • If your life doesn't speak for Christ, then neither should your mouth.

  • To say, 'I have learnt', is to close the door on the world; to say, 'I am learning' is to open a door which has no horizons.

  • When the Spirit moves and people are broken in tears, I shouldn't be asking, 'Why are they crying?', but, 'Why am I not?'.

  • The characteristic of a religious relationship is ritual. The characteristic of a Christian relationship is love.

  • So simple; bread and wine. Even a child can understand. Lord, when I can't understand, make me more like a child?

  • There are those who study theology
There are those who study theoryology
And there are those who say, 'here I am, send me'.

  • When God moves it takes our breath away. Our often pointless activity only makes us breathless.

  • I'm sorry is never a song for a solo voice.

  • The church has been playing war games for too long. The games are over.

  • A husband and wife is a two-piece jigsaw.

  • To know, is to act, otherwise it is not knowing
To act, is to sacrifice, otherwise it is not action
To sacrifice is to love, otherwise it is not sacrificial
To love, is to know God, otherwise it is not love
To know God is to act.

  • Christians are not in the business of turning the world upside down. They are in the business of turning it the right way up.

  • Spirituality has much less to do with the altitude of your hands than the attitude of your heart.

  • Heaven is not full of heroes, it is full of servants

  • About trusting God: You can never learn to swim until the water is deep enough to sink in.

  • If we, as Christians, cannot demonstrate to the world that we trust God, we cannot be surprised if the world rejects a God which they see as being untrustworthy.

  • Jesus is our saviour, not our social worker
